Are scars formed in the Breast Reduction surgeries?
The Breast Reduction surgeries are the surgeries with scars. The size of the breast and the type of the surgery to be chosen accordingly determine the shape of the scar. The character of the scar mainly depends on the scar potential and skin type of the person. The scar can be in the form of "Inverted T", "J" or "lollipop". In all three types of scars, there is a line around the nipple and perpendicular to it. In the inverted T-shaped scar model, there is a horizontal scar under the breast occurred at the level of the groove. In the J-shaped scar model, the vertical descending line is extended outward to match the lower crease of the breast. In the lollipop-shaped scar, the skin pot being found at the bottom of the vertical line is closed by shrinking. In general, the scars are more obvious in the first 1-1.5 months, but gradually become more obscure.
Which Breast Reduction surgery is more suitable for me?
The questions about the surgical technique of the patients become more frequent, as a result of the plastic surgeries become widespread and the public is conscious of it. The surgeries, which leave scars in the form of "Inverted T", are the classic and most commonly used type of the surgery. Although the horizontal trace line of the Inverted T is under the breast crease and it is not very obvious, the scar is more prominent in this surgery. The results are less permanent. However, it is a surgical technique that will be used in very large breasts. The vertical mammoplasty technique should be applied for the breasts that are not too large. With this technique, the J-shaped or lollipop-shaped scar is left. The results are more permanent. More conical shapes can be created. The most common problem is the skin pot on the lower part of the scar. These pots, which regress spontaneously within 3 months in 85% of the patients, can be removed with the local anesthesia after 3 months if they do not disappear.

The results of the breast reduction surgeries are long-lasting. This period can change with age, weight gain and loss, post-operative pregnancy encountered and breastfeeding. However, in every environment where there is gravity, the tissues are condemned to be defeated by the gravity. We recommend to our young patients who want long-term permanence to apply 6 months after they complete their pregnancy and stop breastfeeding.
